A quick check of my discography indicates that you are right – the July 2 date was the very first JATP show, and Nat Cole was indeed the pianist. But the first volume to be released – on Moses Asch's Disc label – was apparently the one above. It was done later in 1944 and Cole was not present. The personnel is as listed, and perhaps Granz went with that session first because there would have been no contractual complications. Whatever the case may be, I'll correct the date in the entry. Thanks for your kind words about Gems, too. Stay tuned for more interesting stuff ...David Dannhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03791635801707587161noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2053397404911396599.post-11189416456000197222012-07-29T01:05:27.893-07:002012-07-29T01:05:27.893-07:00First of all, I love your blog. You continue to share some amazing things and I really appreciate your efforts.

As I read through this posting something wasn't hitting me right. Finally I pulled out my complete JATP on verve and took a look at the songs and personnel. It hit me quickly. Nat "King" Cole is all over the 1944 original JATP performances. He isn't listed on your personnel for these tracks. I dug further and found that personnel and those tracks listed under the Feb. 12, 1945 JATP at the Philharmonic Auditorium in LA. I am not able to read the back cover of your posting, which may have the information you list along with the date. I wanted to present you with this other date and let you know that the listing may be incorrect.

Regardless, I love your blog and hope you continue to share the many great rarities from your collection

All the best!jazzcat1228https://www.blogger.com/profile/06814474379837634426noreply@blogger.com
